Income Tax Department is selecting and sending mails under Risk Management Process with the Subject line regarding “Claim of Refund in your Income Tax Return for AY “.
The said email states that “Your Income Tax Return has been selected under risk management process wherein your confirmation is required on the claim of refund. You are requested to submit your response in the e-Filing Portal post login by selecting either of the given two options.”

Risk Management Process is usually followed by most of the salaried person to claim excessive deduction even though it is not reflecting in Form 16 issued by employer, and they have not made the investments specified under chapter VI-A of the Income Tax Act 1961. Some time it happens that person has genuinely made the investment, but it is not reflecting in form 16 issued by the employer as investment proof is submitted to employer or sometimes after submission to not considered by employer. If the employee has invested the money, then no need to worry even though it is not reflecting in form 16 and notice is received by the taxpayer.

Notices is being sent to taxpayer by department who has:
· claimed the deductions U/s 80G for the first time,
· excessive deductions claimed which are not reflecting in form 16 or
· businessman whose gross total income decreased, or
· various investments are shown for claiming exemption under chapter VI-A,
· home loan interest are shown to reduce the tax or
· claim the refund of TDS deducted.
Notices are also issued in cases where return is revised by taxpayer & in revised return income is reduced or additional deduction is claimed by the assessee.
What is written in the notice?
“Dear Taxpayer, It is seen that a claim of refund has been made in the Income Tax Return for AXXXXXXX8E for AY-2022-23 filed by you on Jul 17, 2022 . Your income-tax return has been identified under risk management process of the Income-Tax Department. In this context, your confirmation is required on the following claim(s)/deduction(s)/omissions in the return.
This communication is intended to alert you on any possible incorrect claims/omissions in the above-mentioned return of income.
Relevant information in respect of your financial transaction is also available in the annual information statement{AIS} under services menu in e-filing portal, post login. Please state before submitting response in respect of this communication to ensure complete and accurate disclosure of income.
To submit the response, please login to e-filing portal>> pending action>> worklist>> response for refund confirmation and select the correct option
- The claims in my return of income are correct.
- I will revise my return of my income to correct the amount of my refund claim.
Please verify the correctness of claims made in your return of income file and submit your response within 15 days of receipt of this e mail.

How to submit response to this?
To submit the response, please login to e-Filing portal >>Pending Action >>Worklist>> ‘Response for Refund Confirmation’ and select the correct option.
– The claims in my return of income are correct.
– I will revise my return of income to correct the amount of refund claimed.
Please verify the correctness of claims made in your return of income filed and submit your response within 15 days of receipt of this e-mail. In case of any incorrect claims/ omissions, please revise your income-tax return (ITR) for AY 2022-23.

This is just re confirmation mail/ messages by Income tax department to question if any additional claim is made than the details available with them.
- If all the details provided by you in Income Tax return are correct you need to just log in to the Income tax website-> Pending Action -> Worklist -> go to for your action. There you will find below option: Response to refund confirmation. Next they will show you the year for which refund is pending and you need to send confirmation for same. Press submit.

- In the end you will see a success message and a Transaction ID. You can note that transaction ID for future reference.

- Within few days you will receive refund in your pre-validated bank account.
This has nothing to do with any suspect on you or your refund or many people are even thinking that their case will be selected in scrutiny because of this. It is just a risk assessment tool installed by Income Tax department to check before giving refund to assessee. It is not guaranteed that notice will be received if you have received this mail.
